What are LED basketball court lights?
LED basketball court lights must provides uniform, soft and bright lighting for both indoor and outdoor venues, and is also suitable for other sports such as tennis and badminton. The optical design of LED basketball court lighting is crucial, it’s need to addressing multiple issues that impact both player performance and the spectator experience.
First, basketball is a fast-paced sport characterized by intense physical contact. Lighting must ensure uniform brightness across the court to avoid dark areas that can affect players’ judgment. Second, anti-glare design is also crucial, as otherwise it can interfere with players’ shooting and passing accuracy and reduce spectator comfort. Indoor and outdoor basketball courts also differ in the types of lighting fixtures: indoors prioritize reflection, color rendering and uniform light, while outdoor lighting, in addition to high uniformity, must also consider waterproofing, dustproofing and weather resistance.
LEDRHYTHM - Indoor LED Basketball Court Lights
Indoor LED basketball court lights typically uses high bay LED lights(UFO, linear), and the lighting requirements for indoor basketball courts are far more complex than one might imagine. Due to the relatively enclosed space, light easily reflects off walls and ceilings. Without professional optical design, this can cause visual disturbance for players. Furthermore, basketball is a fast-paced sport with frequent head-up movements, making anti-glare even more important than in other sports venues.
LEDRHYTHM linear or UFO LED high bay lights are perfectly suited for indoor basketball court lighting:
- Uniformity: Beam angle of up to 120° ensures uniform light across the entire basketball court, eliminating dark areas.
- Low Glare: A grille, anti-glare lens or dual-sided lighting design effectively reduces direct light irritation to the eyes.
- High-Definition Recording: Meets professional competition requirements for color rendering index (CRI ≥ 90) and flicker-free, delivering realistic images.
- Flexible Installation: Supports various mounting options, including suspended, ceiling, wall and adjustable brackets, adapting to various indoor basketball court heights and structures.
LEDRHYTHM - Outdoor LED Basketball Court Lights
Outdoor LED basketball court lights requires more than just uniform illumination. Due to their long-term exposure to the elements, they must withstand heavy rain, dust and temperature fluctuations. LEDRHYTHM high-quality LED flood light series is the optimal choice for outdoor basketball court lighting. We offer multiple beam angles are available to focus light within the basketball court, reducing light pollution. Designed with die-cast aluminum housing and anti-corrosion coating, IP66/IK08 rating, making it suitable for rain, snow, and high humidity environments.
Training vs Competition in Basketball Court Lighting
For basketball court lighting used for daily training, an average illuminance of 30–50 fc is generally sufficient. This ensures basic brightness while better controlling energy costs. For professional basketball competitions, the illuminance standard needs to be raised to 75–100 fc, with even higher uniformity and color rendering requirements. If professional basketball game is also used for television broadcasts, the illuminance may need to reach 130 fc or higher, with faithful color reproduction.
Basketball Court Application | Indoor (fc / CRI) | Outdoor (fc / CRI) |
---|---|---|
Training | 30–50 fc / CRI ≥70 | 20–30 fc / CRI ≥70 |
Competition | 75–100 fc / CRI ≥80 | 50–75 fc / CRI ≥80 |
Broadcast | 120–150 fc / CRI ≥90 | 100–150 fc / CRI ≥90 |
At LEDRHYTHM, our LED basketball court lighting series offers flexible control. Using 0-10V/DALI dimming or smart control systems, illumination and color rendering can be adjusted at any time. A single basketball court can also be freely switched to suit different uses, significantly improving operational efficiency.
Mounting Height and Layout of LED Basketball Court Lights
Indoor basketball courts
Indoor lighting is often limited by ceiling height, with fixtures typically installed on ceilings or beams at height of 7–12 meters. Design priorities include ensuring uniform illumination across the entire basketball court, avoiding areas of excessive brightness or darkness, and minimizing direct glare. Lighting fixtures can be evenly distributed along the court’s ceiling or concentrated in the four corners.
Outdoor basketball courts
A common solution for outdoor courts is four-pole layout, with fixtures typically installed at a height of 8–12 meters. By adjusting the fixtures’ tilt angles, consistent illumination can be achieved between the center and edges of the court. Training courts can be equipped with 2–3 fixtures per pole, while professional competitions and broadcasting venues require 4–6.
Can your LED basketball court lights withstand the impact of basketball?
